Since I don't mail out a letter each year with our Christmas cards, I decided this year to do a recap in photos here on the old blog....here goes!

JANUARY

 

We rented scaffolding and remodeled our living room.  You can see more here.

Sara fell into the fireplace and knocked one tooth out and her 4 bottom front teeth loose. I didn't post too much of the story at that time but there are a couple of other photos here.

OCTOBER

Wow....marching season!  It kept us busy for a few weeks! It was such a whirlwind and ended in such a disappointment that I never really posted much about it.....I am still sad.

NOVEMBER

 

We traveled to South Dakota for Grandpa Barnes' funeral. There are a few more photos from our trip here.

Basketball season is here!  We have a fun filled couple of months ahead of us with basketball!  We can't wait!

Operation finish some projects!!

I have started the process of going back through my house and finishing all of the unfinished projects that I have going on!  Those of you who know me well know that there might be more of these than even I am aware of!  I hate this about myself but when I am working on something, as soon as I can see results I get bored with it and have to move on to something else.  About 2 years ago I decided Sara's bookshelves needed some darker/brighter colors on them {I had painted all of the shelves with light pink stripes in both directions about a year before this} so I taped them off and added the darker/brighter stripes to one shelf. At first I only did one because I wasn't sure if I liked it.  I soon decided that I did but never finished them. I am happy to report that as of today I have finished the five other shelves. Yea me!

 

Maybe all of the new projects we are starting this month have motivated me!

Kilz, Caulk, and some courage!

I had NO intentions of working on the scaffolding while Marcus was at work last week.  It is intimidating to get off of!  However, once I discovered that we did in fact have 2 gallons of Kilz, I knew that I needed to get started. I got the beams painted with Kilz and then Marcus caulked them all in.  There was quite a gap between them and the ceiling that didn't really show before when they were dark.  On Saturday we got them all painted with the first coat of 'Pecan Sandie'.  It is the same color that we are doing the trim throughout the house.  It is also the same color that the mantle has been for 2 years!  I painted it one December because I didn't want to decorate the fireplace with the cedar mantle, it just wasn't our 'style'!  We didn't get anything done on Sunday because we had to run several errands!

These pictures were taken when the beams on the left side of the picture were just caulked and primed and the beams on the right side of the picture had already gotten their first coat of paint! 

I just noticed that in the background of this picture you can see that I have painted the back of the bookshelves.  It is the same color as the beams, mantle and trim, too!  I had been wanting to do that for a very long time!

All in a weekend's work!

We have started our living room remodeling project!  Marcus rented some scaffolding on Saturday and the demolition began!  These are a few of the pictures of us tearing it down.  We scraped the old nasty texture off of the ceiling and removed all of the paneling off the walls.  Many people didn't even realize that we had paneling in the living room because someone before us had caulked the 'grooves' and painted it white.  We hope to finish everything by March 1st but if we don't, we don't!  We are our own contractors and we all know they run behind schedule!

We have FINALLY hung some of the ceiling tiles!  Yeah!  Now only 186 left to go!
